150+ Border Collie Names: Traditional & Unique Ideas for Males & Females

Border Collies are some of the most fun dog breeds around. Eager, smart, and hardworking, these dogs can achieve a lot beyond their traditional job of sheep herding. But when you’ve just adopted a Border Collie puppy, your first job is to find the perfect name.

Is your Border Collie cute, full of energy, or laid back? We recommend thinking about your pup’s personality and energy levels before settling on a name. Dogs that love to run might be well suited to names like Chase, Fly, or Leap. Less active pups may do better with sweet names like Pistachio or Wishbone. And if you want to honor your dog’s heritage, you can always go for a traditional Border Collie name like Hamish, Tartan, or Fergus.

Once you’ve thought about your dog, it’s time to start shopping for a great Border Collie name. Keep reading to find over 150 great names for any Border Collie. 1. Luath

The Scottish poet Robert Burns had a favorite Border Collie named Luath. Burns is widely considered the national poet of Scotland, and many of the statues honoring him around the country feature his beloved Luath at his side. Luath’s death inspired the poem “The Twa Dogs.”

2. Blitz

Blitz is a heroic Border Collie whose owner volunteers with a search and rescue team. He recently saved the life of a missing woman in Cornwall, England, by finding her in a patch of dense undergrowth.

3. Fly

If you’ve ever seen the movie “Babe,” you may remember the other animals more than the dogs. But the movie features a smart female Border Collie named Fly. Fly teaches Babe (the pig) how to herd sheep!

4. Nana

No, this isn’t the dog in “Peter Pan.” The movie “Snow Dogs” features a female Border Collie named Nana. Most of the dogs in this movie are Siberian Huskies, but Nana also gets her chance as a hero dog when the sled slips off a cliff.

5. Bee

You’ve heard of Border Collies herding sheep, but what about geese? A university in Florida has employed a Border Collie named Bee as a goose master. Her unusual job is to keep geese out of the school’s sidewalks and greens. What a good dog!
