Blue-eyed pet of the royal ladies of Italy and much beloved dog of the common people, the Volpino Italiano once originated in Italy many centuries ago. It is believed the offspring of ancient European Spitz type dogs. Most probably, the Volpino has been used as a watchdog on Tuscan Farms. With sparkling personality traits and even temperament, the Volpino Italiano dogs are spirited and bouncy. The Volpino Italiano is protective, curious, intelligent, sharp mind, dedicated and loyal to the family he belongs. It is playful and sociable, known for bonding with family and friends. The Volpino Italiano dog is an intelligent, curious and active dog. The early socialization and good, firm and positive training is very necessary for this breed. The Volpino breed can adapt in any lifestyle due to its smaller sizes. This small breed requires moderate amount of daily exercises. The Volpino Italiano needs least and minimal grooming it needs once or twice a week brushing. Some Volpino Italiano can prone to cataracts and heart issues. Volpino Italiano History

Blue-eyed pet of the royal ladies of Italy and much beloved dog of the common people, the Volpino Italiano once originated in Italy many centuries ago. It is believed the offspring of ancient European Spitz type dogs. Most probably, the Volpino has been used as a watchdog on Tuscan Farms. The foremost duty of this watchdog was to make alert the large dogs when seemed an intruder tried to make an approach to their territory. It is also said that Michelangeolo’s Volpino has accompanied these dogs when painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling. It declined in number because of unknown reasons and the last dog was registered in in 1965. In 1984, some efforts made for the revival of the breed but could not fruitful. Since the 2006, the AKC/FSS has quite the recognition of the Volpino Italiano due to similarity to the American Eskimo dog. However, in 2006, it has recognized by UKC with same standard as the FCI.

The Volpino Italiano dog breed is with squire built, small frames covered by fluffy and rough coat. The coat colors include black, white, red and tan. With straight muzzle and fox like pointy ears, the Volpino Italiano dogs hold a wedge-shaped rather rounded head. The deep set eyes are dark in color while striking an alert and friendly expression. The tail of the breed is feathered and curl over the back.
