Overview

When Queen Victoria visited the Scottish Highlands, in 1860s, she fell in love with this fashionable breed of the time. The collies were too much taller & bigger than todays collies. A decade or more ago, these coolies were used in herding but now replaced by Border Collies, it caused some of the Collies to lose their instinct of herding. The Scotch/Farm Collies has bred more for its working skill than its appearance. It is a breed with a great and cute look; its sturdy body gives a nice look of agility and power. It is a versatile dog with a traditional look. The height of the Scotch/Farm Collie is 19 to 24 inches and weight is 40 to 70 pounds. The Scotch/Farm Collies prime instinct is herding but it can also be used as hunting dog, but today these dogs are having a repo of house dogs. Outstandingly, these Collies are nice dogs for kids. Most of Scotch/Farm Collies get along with other canines and generally with non-canine pets also. It is depends on the personality of individual dog and the humans around him, these dogs can either frank to reserved with or aloof of strangers. Though, it is nice pet but needing firm, gentle yet confident pack-leader for training. It can be adaptable to apartment livings if sufficiently exercised. Being a farm dog it needs yard to run and romp. It can best suit to the requirements of the dogs daily exercises. The Scotch/Farm Collie needs abundance daily exercises. It is a great working dog with herding instinct. If you have a safe area for dogs run and romp, it can be satisfy and content with a rich health. It need at least daily long walk when not applied on any task. The double coat of the breed is long and straight having big matt, these mats should be trimmed occasionally. They should be brushed once or twice per week. Bathe is when it necessary. The Life expectancy of the Scotch/Farm Collie is 12 to 16 years.
