Overview

A cross between the German hunting poodle (Pudel) and the English pointer or some other Pointing breeds, originated and developed in Germany. A true versatile hunter, the Pudelpointer can excel equally in fields and water. Not only work enthusiastically over land or in water, but are capable to track to recover the wounded or crippled games. Ground covering Pudlepointer is a quick, agile and very strong dog. It is a wonderful gun dog for the hunters on foot as they can hunt for the gun after and before the shot. It makes a pleasant companion at home as well as in fields. The Pudelpointer is not only curious, but is also a very friendly and eager to please compromising dogs. Being an intelligent dog it is an eager to please, easy to train dog. Gentle by nature, desiring for affection, company and love, the Pudlepointer is an awesome protecting and attentive dog that may be a good watchdog. Training of this awkward dog is not so challenging, it may trained in very firm, gentle and motivated way. Training must be started as soon as possible in early ages. Training must be interesting and motivated so dog stays in touch with learning interestingly. A firm, gentle but dominant pack leader may teach such kind of working dogs in the best ways. Being a working and true hunter it will not like to adopt an apartment life. However, if it is supplied with a great amount of daily exercise, it may abide in an apartment. These energetic dogs will require a daily brisk walk, jog or run. It is a hunter and can track a scent so a large sized yard can do well. Pudelpointer History

In the 1800s the Pudelpointer dog was created and developed in Germany by cross mating the German hunting Poodle (Pudel) with English or some other pointers. First, it was introduced into North America in 1956. The terrific yet under-rated Pudelpointer just remains a pretty oddity even in its homeland, Germany.

Pudelpointer Appearance

The Pudelpointer is a medium sized, strong working dog. Slightly domed head is moderately broad. The ears are drooping, set fairly high. The eyes are bright. There are mustaches around the nose and lips. Hard and rough coat of the breed is medium in length, flat and lying close to the body with a dense inner coat. The coat of breed meets in chestnut, liver and sometimes in black color.
