Native in Denmark, the Old Danish Pointer is a medium sized breed of pointing dogs. It comes in white with brown markings. In its home land, the breed is being applied on pointing, very popular in Denmark but unknown outside their homeland. With a great impression, the dog is calm, steady while displaying courage and determination. The breed move slowly while at hunt, ever maintaining contact with hunter and complete its job as a pointing dog without any unnecessary trouble of field. It is equally fit for both the small and large hunting fields. It is called pointer due to its pointing instinct. It tends to point out birds of the order Galliformes and those birds that belong to the family Phasianidae. The Old Danish Pointer seems a stable and quite dog in nature, however; it can be courageous and determined. A self-assured and courageous breed always demand a very firm, confident, courageous and active owner with skillful leadership qualities. The Old Danish Pointer dog is equally fit for small and large hunting fields, however not suitable for apartment livings or small homes. It will stay healthy and friendly to its family if provided with daily adequate exercises. The Old Danish Pointer dogs are rather easy to care and maintain; it needs minimal grooming. Old Danish Pointer History

Probably in 1710, Morten Bak the resident of Randers and Hobro crossed gypsy dogs with local farm dogs and established a purebred of piebald white and brown Bakhounds or Old Danish Pointers. The farm-dogs of local farmers were known as Bloodhounds; aforesaid hounds have descended from the Squire Scent hounds and Squire Scent hounds were the offspring of St. Hubert Hounds. It is also believed that gypsy dogs are descended from Spanish Pointing Dogs and other various scent hounds. However; final conclusion is that the St. Hubert Hounds has contributed to the Old Danish Pointer.
