Overview

Originated and developed in America, the large American Alsatian dog has a balanced and active longer than tall body posture, its overall appearance is alert and attentive. An American Alsatian is a tremendous family companion dog, the extremely dedicated and loyal to its family the American Alsatians behave nicely with all family members and can get along children and other household animals. However, it can aloof of unknown or strange persons but without any kind of aggression and fear. Not only watchful but also intelligent, thus learn things in quick time and would like to respond soft tones. It can be very calm and amiable if have proper amount of daily exercises. They not like start to play unless you encourage them. It is a breed that has low prey drive and minimal exercise requirement. Moreover, they do not like to bark a lot or dig up, whine or run out of fence. It may respond cheerfully to light and gentle application of training. Though, it is a sociable dog but early socialization is paramount. It needs regular brushing. No major health issue is yet reported. The height of American Alsatian is 24 to 28 inches and weight is 75 to 120 pounds. The life expectancy of American Alsatian is 12 to 14 years.

American Alsatian History

During 80s, the breed has started its existence, after the selective breeding struggle of 20 years, some specific selected puppies were bred that had required traits of a family companion dog. In 1987, the Lois Denny, the founder of the breed, set the breed standard for American Alsatian (at that time name was Alsatian Shepalute); in 1988, the first generation of this breed was registered in U.S by the North American Shepalute Club (since renamed the National American Alsatian Club). At that time, the breed was holding five pure breed dogs within its bloodlines: the German Shepherd Dog, the Alaskan malamute, the Great Pyrenees, the English Mastiff and the Anatolian Shepherd. In 2000, the breed was publically introduced to the American people after conformation of breed standard. In 2010, the name of breed has changed “from Alsatian Shepalute to American Alsatian”. The National American Alsatian Registry (NASR) and the National American Alsatian Club (NAAC) are two main registries in America which recognized this breed.

American Alsatian Appearance

The large American Alsatian dog has a balanced and active longer than tall body posture, its overall appearance is alert and attentive. With robust and dark muzzle, the head of the breed is broad. The ears are standing erect. With a wolfish gaze, the eyes are almond shaped coloring light brown to yellow. The tail of the breed is black-tipped and hanging down touching the pasterns. The hip is also broad and toes of the breed are rather splayed. The deep chest is strong. The coat of the American Alsatian is of medium length and can have gold, silver, cream or black sable colors. The most desired color is silver sable.

American Alsatian Weight and Height

The Height of male American Alsatian is 25 to 28 inches and Female 24 to 27 inches. The weight for male American Alsatians is 79 to 120 pounds and for female American Alsatians is 75 to 100 pounds.

The American Alsatian is an adaptable dog and can well adjusted in any living condition. The American Alsatian can do well even in rather least spaces. These dogs not like sever hot climate so be careful and keep them cook in hot weather conditions. It needs moderate amount of daily exercises. A daily long walk is enough. They love to go out for walk, preferably in dog parks. They happened somewhat lazy when asked for work and prefers the quiet and calm task of therapy dogs.
